Building Resilient Nickel Value Chains: EU–New Caledonia Cooperation

This side event will bring together public authorities and key industrial stakeholders from New Caledonia with the European nickel industry to explore the strategic role of New Caledonia in strengthening resilient and sustainable nickel value chains for Europe.

The session will highlight the growing importance of secure and responsible nickel supply for the energy transition. Discussions will focus on the need to build trusted international partnerships that ensure long-term access to critical resources while upholding high environmental, social, and governance standards.

The first part of the session will provide a comprehensive overview of New Caledonia’s political, economic, and regulatory landscape, presenting the territory as a reliable and strategic partner for Europe, while the second part will be a more interactive roundtable where both New Caledonian and European stakeholders discuss needs and alignments.

The session will conclude with a forward-looking discussion on how to foster mutually beneficial partnerships between Europe and New Caledonia, with a focus on sustainable sourcing and long-term supply security.
