Roby has built technology roadmaps for global mining houses incl. BHP, Rio Tinto, Vale, Agnico, Gold Fields with a joint market cap of $1tn. He has built the world’s largest mining technology consortium in South Africa, and has helped build or supported consortia such as CMIC, MinCoSA or the ICMM.

He is a board member, VC and angel investor in mining and energy with a portfolio spanning 10 countries, and advises global VC funds. As a serial entrepreneur, he was head of development at Nanosolar, with over $1/2bn in funding the best funded startup of its time. Roby is a co-inventor of Design Thinking from his time at IDEO and Stanford. He developed innovations for companies worth $9tn, as diverse as Apple, BMW or Nestle.
