Stéphane Bourg joined the French geological survey (BRGM) in 2022 to head the French Observatory of Mineral Resources for Industrial Sectors (OFREMI), after 23 years at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

Involved for over ten years in the issue of critical raw materials and their supply chains, particularly in the context of the energy transition, he leads the European Network of Experts on Critical Raw Materials (SCRREEN) since 2016, which supports the European Commission in assessing their criticality, and he is the President of PROMETIA, the international association promoting mineral processing and extractive metallurgy for mining and recycling.

OFREMI supports the French government and strategic French industries in the energy, digital, aeronautics and defence sectors, ensuring both monitoring of strategic materials (assessment of their criticality) and risk analysis through stress tests to contribute in their decision-making.
