Félix Fernández-Shaw has been Director at the European Commission since 2018 and is responsible for Latin America and the Caribbean, including the Global Gateway. He has worked on sustainable development and external financing issues since 2009, as Council WG Chair, in the European External Action Service as Head of Division and as Expert in the Cabinet of the HRVP Federica Mogherini.

Prior to that, he had 10 years of experience in Justice and Home Affairs Issues as a Spanish career diplomat. He served in the Spanish Permanent Representation to the EU and in the Spanish Administration in Madrid dealing with migration issues and with judicial and antiterrorist cooperation as Director-General in the Ministry of Justice and in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
