Lama Itani
Business Development Manager, Rare Earth, Solvay

I am a chemical Engineer with a PhD in Materials Science from Haute Alsace University. I joined Solvay in 2010.

I have been working for 13 years in the Research and Innovation function, where I evolved as a project manager, team manager, and R&D laboratory manager. During these 13 years, I had the opportunity to work on the elaboration of new inorganic and hybrid materials for different markets, such as the automotive, electronic, construction, Hydrogen, and agro markets. One of my main areas of expertise and closest to my heart domains is “Rare Earths Chemistry.”

In January 2023, I joined the Rare Earths business unit as Business Development Manager. In this new role, I manage customers’ interactions to develop Rare Earths materials for permanent magnets for electric vehicles and wind turbines.

Add to Calendar 2025-05-15 11:00:00 Raw Materials Summit 2025: MAGELLAN Round Table: Policy and regulations for a viable magnet recycling industry in Europe To establish a viable permanent magnet recycling industry in Europe, both clear policy frameworks and targeted research efforts are essential.Supportive policies should include standardised waste collection systems for end-of-life products containing rare earth magnets, incentives for manufacturers to incorporate recycled materials, and regulations that promote circular economy practices, cross-Europe collaboration, and the traceability of rare earth elements.Equally important is substantial investment in research and innovation to close existing technological gaps and develop efficient,  viable, and sustainable recycling processes across the entire value chain. Strong support from both the EU and national institutions will be necessary to ensure Europe remains competitive and resilient in critical raw materials.Under the leadership of EIT RawMaterials’ Rare Earths SIGN initiative and the coordinator of the MAGELLAN project - ORANO,  four leading European magnet recycling projects - MAGELLAN, REESILIENCE, HARMONY, and PERMANET - will come together to explore these regulatory and research challenges, and outline the steps needed to enable a robust permanent magnet recycling ecosystem in Europe. After an overview of the actions needed to improve the recycling of permanent magnets, based on the perspectives of each project, the industrial groups involved will exchange their views on all these subjects during a panel discussion. AGENDA11:00 Introduction - Nabeel Mancheri, EIT RawMaterials  11.05 Opening remarks - Milan Grohol, DG Grow 11:10 Presentation of MAGELLAN and Key Topics of the session - Benoît Richebé, Orano 11:20 Presentation of recycling objectives & strategy of the REEsilience project - Carlo Burkhardt, Pforzheim University 11:25 Presentation of recycling objectives & strategy of the HARMONY project - Andrea Giacomelli, ERION 11:30 Presentation of recycling objectives & strategy of the Permanet project - Lama Itami, Solvay 11:35 Q&A session 11:40 Roundtable: “What is needed to ensure the viability of  magnet recycling and manufacturing industries by 2030?” Moderated by Nabeel Mancheri, EIT RawMaterials Panellists:   Benoît Richebé (Orano), Carlo Burkhardt (Pforzheim University), Lama Itami (Solvay), Andrea Giacomelli (ERION), Fernand Vial (Vial-Consulting SAS),  Simone Manfredi, JRC, European Commission.     Rue Bara straat 1751070, Brussels, Belgium, The Egg Conference Centre, Press Room RAW MATERIALS https://eitrmsummit.com/raw-materials-summit-2025/magellan-round-table-policy-and-regulations-viable-magnet-recycling Europe/Brussels public
